Day two of
Whistling Properties Asian Qualifying National Camp 2011
started with a sunny day here in Ahmedabad’s Sports Club of
Gujarat where top eight cueists of National Snooker ranking
playing head to head to confirm their berth in upcoming Asian
championship 2011.
In the
morning session, Pankaj Advani defeated his state-mate I.H.
Manudev 4-2. Manudev won the toss and started with breaking
first frame and handed over an open chance to Pankaj, which he
converted into a break of 55 to win the first frame 73-03.
Second frame Manudev did not give any chance and with a break
of 82, he leveled the match 1-1. In the third third frame
Pankaj converted a straight pot into an excellent break of 113
to raise the lead 2-1 and then again in fourth frame a break
of 71 puts himself in a comfortable position with a score 3-1.
Manudev, did not want to give up easily, he bounced back with
some moderate shots to curb Pankaj and with a break of 58,
Manudev won the fifth frame to narrow the lead 2-3. Sixth
frame, both the cueists tried to curtail each other. But in
the end Pankaj got upper hand to seal the match 4-2 in his
favour.
In the
evening session, Pankaj blanked Alok Kumar 4 frames to NIL.
Though there were no big breaks but decent breaks of 40s and
50s were enough for him to outplay Alok and to win his fourth
successive match.
Aditya, Lucky
on fire; Manan lost again
The Asian
Games Bronze Medalist, Aditya Mehta continues his winning
streak from yesterday’s two 4-0 performances and defeated
former World No.3 Manan Chandra. The match remains very idle
for youngsters as every frame was a learning experience. The
initial two frames, both the cueists smashed above 50 breaks
in the and won 1 frame each. Third and fourth frame, Aditya
got some good knocks to advance 3-1 with moderate breaks of 63
and 76. Manan replied the fifth frame with a break of 67 but
falls short in sixth frame 77-25 and lost 2-4. This was
Manan’s third loss in a row and has to won all matches now to
stay in the race of selection.
On
the other hand, the current national No.2 Lucky Vatnani also
maintaining his winning tally as he won third match
continuously. In morning session, he beat Alok Kumar 4-2.
Losing first two frames, Lucky gripped again and won the third
frame with some decent potting to narrow the lead. The amazing
fourth frame was the highlight of the match where both the
cueists run neck to neck throughout the frame. Alok needing
pink and black to tie the frame, in an attempt to play a safe
pink, he got it a pot. Potting black thereafter he pulls Lucky
to play black ball tie. Both the cueists started for the
decider black ball, which after couple of safeties, Alok
miscalculated and left for an easy pot for Lucky, which lucky
without wasting the chance potted and leveled the match 2-all.
After that winning next two frames, Lucky finished the
proceedings of the match 4-2 in his favour.
In an
important match, Kamal Chawla defeated Anuj Uppal 4-2. Losing
first frame, Kamal wins next three frames to advance 3-1.
Though Anuj won the fifth frame but that was not sufficient to
stop Kamal winning the match. This match was important for
Kamal after last night lost against Alok Kumar in decider
frame.
