Shahbaz blazes the green
baize
Shahbaaz
Adil Khan ,the current National junior snooker champion and a 2nd
year Medical student from Kolkata blazed the green baize in the
morning session of the 2nd days play of the National
Snooker Selection Tournament for the 2010 Asian Games being played
here at the plush Billiards hall of the Clube de Gaspar Dias,
Miramar, Goa. The 19 year old bespectacled cueist completely
outwitted current India no.2 Sourav Kothari by 4 frames to nil.
Shahbaaz from the beginning played with strong determination and
capitalized every opening that was offered to him by Sourav who made
a number of unforced errors in the match. In the scrappy first frame
Shahbaaz managed to scrape through with intelligent play. The second
frame saw Shahbaaz raising his game to optimum and constructed a
beautiful break of 80 points to go ahead by 2-0. With consistent
scoring Shahbaaz continued his onslaught in the third frame too. The
fourth frame saw Shahbaaz in his brilliant best as from the word go
he went on to compile point after point with clinical precision and
mellifluous cueing and constructed a massive clearance break of 126,
the highest so far in the tournament. Later in the afternoon he
posted another facile win over Manan Chandra and kept alive his run
for the top position in the league table.
7 times world
champion Pankaj Advani who suffered a shock defeat at the hands of
Brijesh Damani in the late evening match yesterday ,came back
spiritedly and got the better of Kamal Chawla.
In a sheer
battle of attrition between two former Asian Snooker Champions,
Yasin Merchant came out victorious against Alok Kumar.
Aditya Mehta
recovered from his yesterday’s bad patch and posted a very important
win over Brijesh Damani with a break of 79 in the 5th
frame
