Khar Gymkhana Open Invitation Amateur Snooker Tournament 2009
Yasin repeats CCI win over Manan
Report by :: Pradeep Vijayakar
Topsy one day turvy the next. That's Yasin Merchant. The other day he lost to
Rafath Habib. On Sunday he beat Manan Chandra. Merchant had been a thrown a
lifeline on Saturday when Sandeep Gulati beat favourite Manan Chandra. Yasin
began with a break of 80 and beat Manan 4-2 on Sunday to make the last eight of
the HSBC Premier-Shyam Shroff Memorial Open Invitation Snooker Tournament at the
Khar Gymkhana. Rafath Habib also made it beating Gulati 4-2. Manan was out. He
had lost to Yasin at the CCI semis earlier.
Geet Sethi registered his third win in as many matches to book his place in the
quarter-finals with a 4-0 rout of Khar Gymkhana’s Harish Pahuja.Alok, who gave a
walkover to Joshi because he read the timings wrong, needed to beat Geet late
in the night to qualify. Otherwise Joshi was through.
Saurav Kothari scored a crucial 4-3 win over qualifier R. Girish of Railways in Group B to enhance his hopes. But compatriot Rupesh Shah confirmed Kothari’s berth in the quarter-finals with a significant 4-3 win over Shahbaz Khan of PSPB who also would have been in contention had he won.
Railway cueist Faisal Khan fired the maiden century break of 117 in the current
edition of the competition as he beat Khar Gymkhana’s Harish Pahuja 4-0.
