Success vs. Joy

- XLIV -

Life is a Challenge

I am not scared of challenges, in fact, I welcome them. Whenever I have time to sit down and relax, I keep asking myself what is the meaning of my life and other such philosophical questions. I don’t have any real answers but know one thing for sure – whatever it is, I want to go for it and grow.

I have found that I am at my best when times are tough, in adversity, not when everything seems fine.

Unlike Wilson Jones, India’s first world billiards champion who had a tremendous love for the game, I find many of today’s players quickly entering into a comfort zone where they become easily satisfied with what they are doing. They then become indolent. I don’t believe such players are able to maintain their standards for more than a few years, certainly not more than five years. They are sporting shooting stars, burning bright but fading fast. Having climbed to a certain level, complacency sets in – such players become self-appointed heroes.
