Success vs. Joy

Knowing the Path vs Walking the Path

Today my golfer friend’s goal is to become a scratch player. He knows and realizes the effort that he must make to arrive at his goal. He agrees that in order to further strengthen his game he needs to hit 500 balls a day all alone and

not step on the course for now.

He wants to, but will not. “There’s a difference between knowing the path, and walking the path” (Morpheus, The Matrix).

Is it lethargy? Is it lack of courage? Is it fear of failure? Is it the insecurity of losing self-esteem? Perhaps it is one or all of these but, more important, what plagues him is not playing for the joy of the sweet spot anymore.

Every goal of his can be quantified and his life has become a set of those goals.
