Delhi youngster Pushpinder shocks second seed Thanawat on Opening Day

youngster Pushpinder Singh pulled up the sensational upset To own number two
seed Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon of Thailand by 3-2 in an opening round league
match of the Rewale Group Asian Under 21Snooker Championship At the PYC (Hindu)
Gymkhana here today.
In another
interesting match of the day China’s Cao Yupeng was stretched to the full
distance by Mahanaa Nasser KALObaidili of Qatar before going down to him
60-30,67-23, 326-66, 20-64, and 55-13; The top Chinese seed Li Yuan played a
safe game to conquer local wild cart entrant Adiitya Deshpande, and Anda Zhang
another Chinese cueist got the better of Ali Nasser of Qatar, by 3-nil margin
to give the visitors a rousing start in this 10th edition of the championship
being played on a league-cum-knock out basis.
The Indian
spearhead Shahbaz Khan, made short work of his Saudi Arabian challenger
Albaqshi Nidhal by registering a 3-0.
Down in the
first frame the Delhi youngster Pushpinder won the next two frame at a trot only
to see his rival level up the score. He however maintained his cool and gave no
chance to Thanawat to wrap up the final frame and the match 49-56, 57-51,60-53,
51-59 and 54-28.
Ms Reshma
Rewale, director of Rewale Group of Industries, sponsors of the meet,
inaugurated the championship. Mr. Shashi Vaidya, president PYC (Hindu) Gymkhana
welcomed and Mr Rajan Khivansara, vice president of Billiards & Snookers
Federation of Indian, presided over the function.
