31.08.2015 :: Karmesh triumphs, Bhadresh exits

 

The Winsome Realty Gujarat State Open Ranking Billiards & Snooker Championship for 2015 is under way. The event is jointly organized by Rajpath Club Ltd. and Gujarat State Billiards Association (GSBA).

The Sub Junior Snooker event had its Final day of the Round Robin League Stage (Top 4) which was been played on a best of 3 frames format. In the event Karmesh Patel thrashed Rushil Chavda in 2 straight frames to claim his maiden Sub Junior Snooker title. Karmesh with his powerful potting skills claimed both the frames on a high margin at 56-14 & 57-14 giving no chance to his opponent. Rushil Chavda who lost to Patel had won the other 2 matches, finished at No. 2. Vishal Thakor & Rohan Kalaria finished at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.

The Senior Snooker event which is in its round of 16, is been played on the best of 5 frames format. In the event Mohsin Acchava thrashed top seed and defending champion Bhadresh Panchal in straight 3 frames. Acchava created the biggest upset of the tournament forcing Panchal to exit in the round of 16. Acchava with his good long potting skills cruised into the top 8 beating Panchal 69-44, 69-42, 64-28. Acchava would now be facing seasoned player Anish Anandani in the pre league knock out match. 4th seed Gunjan Patel fought hard to beat Meherzad Bhagwagar 3-2 after being 1-2 down. In the first frame both displayed high quality snooker but eventually it was Gunjan who took the lead at 48-32. Bhagwagar bounced back into the game and fired breaks of 51 and 35 in the 2nd and 3rd fames respectively to take the lead at 44-70(51) & 01-71(35). But Patel with his experienced game displayed impeccable snooker to force a decider and claim the match at 59(32)-20 & 72-31.
