18.08.2015 :: Gunjan cruises over comeback VP

 

The Winsome Realty Gujarat State Open Ranking Billiards & Snooker Championship for 2015 is under way. The event is jointly organized by Rajpath Club Ltd. and Gujarat State Billiards Association (GSBA).

The Senior Snooker is currently in its knock out stage and are been played on a best of 3 frames format.

In the Senior Snooker event, seasoned player and 4th seed Gunjan Patel was put up against Abhishek Shah who besides being a player is currently the Vice President of GSBA and made a comeback into tournaments after 18 years. Shah without any practice of the game played a delightful game against Patel who is a past state champion. The first fame went head to head but it was Patel who potted some crucial shots and won on 51-41 with Shah just 10 points short. In the 2nd frame Shah displayed some really experienced snooker potting the long shots with ease and took a decent lead, with the last 27 points on the table Patel missed a sitter, Shah again gathered some more points to force a decider leaving no option for Gujan to give up on the brown ball. But in the decider Patel played swiftly as all eyes were on the match and sealed the breathtaking match at 61-21. Among the spectators there was a special guest Mr. Sonic Multani who is a past National Champion, watched the match till the end.

In the Junior Snooker event, 3rd seed Malav Parikh cruised into the Round Robin League Stage beating Karan Bhandari in 2 straight wins frames registering a 34 break in the 2nd frame, 78-46 and 63(34)-27.
