17.08.2015 :: Akil upset Johnson in Junior Snooker of Gujarat State

The Winsome Realty Gujarat State Open Ranking Billiards & Snooker Championship for 2015 is under way. The event is jointly organized by Rajpath Club Ltd. and Gujarat State Billiards Association (GSBA).

The Senior Snooker and Junior Snooker events are currently in their knock out stage and are been played on a best of 3 frames format.

In the Junior Snooker event, young and promising Akil Rajani thrashed defending champion and top seed Johnson Narsidani to enter the Top 4 Round Robin league stage. Rajani from the very start was seeming confident enough to win. He crafted good breaks by his spectacular potting abilities and took the first frame at 68-64. In the second frame Narsidani took charge and won at 64-28 forcing a decider. In the decider frame, both the players were at par with each other but a good Snooker from Rajani got his opponent into big trouble where Narsidani lost 24 points and Rajani went 16 points up. But still Narsidani had not lost hope and scored all the balls except the last black ball which both needed to win. Narsidani missed a sitter on the black and left Rajani a pot on, which won him the match at 63-60. Bhavin Sonaiya and Dhanraj Solanki also entered the Top 4 Round Robin League Stage.

In the Senior Snooker event, third seed Yagnesh Merai had no trouble winning his first round to Het Panchal in two straight frames.
