11.08.2015 :: Ankur Captures maiden state billiards title in Gujarat State

The Winsome Realty Gujarat State Open Ranking Billiards & Snooker Championship for 2015 is under way. The event is jointly organized by Rajpath Club Ltd. and Gujarat State Billiards Association (GSBA).

Last evening, the final match of the round robin league stage in the senior billiards event was played on a 150 points best of 5 games format. Seasoned player Ankur Khetan exhibited impressive billiard skills and stunned defending champion Abhimanyu Gandhi in the finals. The match was a major upset and the most interesting match in the event as Khetan started with a bang and scored fluently to capture the lead at 150-122. But Gandhi was confident enough to score high in potting and level the score at 150-100. The 3rd game was nail biting as Gandhi missed a pot on 147 while Khetan on 148 took a in-off and over took Gandhi by 2 games to 1 at 150-147. In the 4th game Gandhi hammered a 43 points break by potting just the reds and levelled once again at 150-93 to force a decider. But Khetan had many bows in his quiver that he used in the deciding game and scored breaks of 20s and 30s continuously to seal the match and his maiden title at 150-115. 40 year old Khetan is playing billiards since 14 years and it is his Maiden Billiards State Title.
