snooker champ, grand ceremony for winners at Gujarat State
The Winsome
Realty Gujarat State Open Ranking Billiards & Snooker Championship for 2015,
jointly organized by Rajpath Club Ltd. and Gujarat State Billiards Association (GSBA)
finally concluded after a month long of competitive games, played in six
different categories. It was a fiesta of high quality billiards and snooker that
was displayed by players from almost every corner of the state and Ahmedabad
city. The high class playing conditions offered at Rajpath Club billiards room
also kept the player’s tempo high.
In the Senior Snooker Round Robin League Stage the final 2 matches were played
to decide the Top 4. Title favourite and 5th seed Abhimanyu Gandhi outclassed
3rd seed Yagnesh Merai 4-0 in the best of 7 frames match to lift the senior
snooker trophy. Abhimanyu played faultless snooker with precision potting and
breaks to develop leads over the opponent at every opportunity. Yagnesh tried to
capitalise on the chances offered to him but was unable to get into the groove
and match the level of play of his opponent and could not secure a single frame
win during the match. This is Abhimanyu’s fourth state snooker title in last 7
years.
In the other senior snooker league match Mohsin Acchava who has made is debut in
the top 4 league played a real fight against his opponent Johnson Narsidani and
won the match to take the no 2 position of the state tournament. Mohsin looked
confident right from the first frame securing a easy win with a margin of 36
points. However Johnson found his composure and won the second, third and fourth
frames with a good lead. Johnson needed just one more frame to seal the match
but Mohsin found his confidence and played impeccable snooker giving no chances
to the opponent and won the remaining 3 frames to seal the match in his favour
and pushing Johnson to the 4th spot. The match had rolled into the 7th frame
which Mohsin captured with immense confidence and a huge margin of 45 points.
Yagnesh Merai secured the 3rd position in the senior snooker event.
A grand ceremony was organized to honour with winners and present the trophies,
medals and cash awards for Rs. 50,000 in the presence of office bearers of
Gujarat State Billiards Association and Rajpath Club Ltd., Mr. Mishal Patel,
Vice President Rajpath Club handed over the trophy to snooker winner Abhimanyu
Gandhi whereas Siddharth Sanghvi, title sponsor awarded the troph to senior
billiards winner Ankur Khetan. Abhishek Shah Vice President, GSBA awarded the
trophy to Mitul Baldania, 1st runners up of sub junior billiards whereas Sanjit
Lavsi from Raymond awarded the trophy to Malav Parikh the junior snooker winner.
Abhimanyu Gandhi also collected the Billiards runners up trophy from Mr. Rajiv
Shah, Sports Committee chairman, Rajpath Club Ltd. Referees of the tournament
were presented with hefty awards of around Rs.40000.
