Advani, Lilly, Neeraj,
Faisal, Talwar, Damani wins Wild Card for Indian Open
10 time world champion, Pankaj Advani; Asian Games silver medalist,
Brijesh Damani; Asian team snooker gold medalists Dharminder Lilly and
Faisal Khan, Versatile players Neeraj Kumar and Sumit Talwar won the wild
card tickets for themselves to play in prestigious Indian Open World
Professional Ranking to be held in India on 10-14 March 2015.
In the last qualifications round that concluded today at PYC Hindu
Gymkhana, Faisal Khan shocked his partner Asian team snooker gold medal
winning team member Kamal Chawla in a two-hour match. Faisal gave an
impressive start with a break of 103 points in second frame and finally
crafted a match winning break of 59 points in sixth frame when Chawla gave
him a chance after scoring 12 points.
In another interesting match, Dharmendra Lilly of Punjab put himself in
danger zone. Lilly was leading 3-1 against Laxman Rawat of Maharashtra and
lost next two frames and falls into decider. However, Lilly made a good
comeback to leave behind Laxman Rawat and secure wild card.
Unlike Lilly, Alok Kumar of PSPB failed to save his match. He was also
leading 3-1 but lost 4-3. Even in the decider frame, Alok was leading 31-7
but Sumit emerged as more determined and made a break of 46 to secure a
commendable 3 points win.
Brijesh Damani who beat Delhi's Anuj Uppal 4-2, while Neeraj Kumar of
Railways stopped the winning run of PSPB's Manan Chandra 4-1.
India's star cueist Pankaj Advani secured a comfortable win over Rafat
Habib of Railways 4-0. Excited Advani later tweeted
"Happy to be through to the Indian Open again. This time as an Indian
wildcard! Always a nice feeling to play an international event at home!"
Faisal khan and Brijesh Damani had also shown their excitement on facebook
the posts:
