Chawla, Singh shine on
opening day of Indian Open final qualifying
India No 2 Kamal Chawla of the Railways started splendidly registering a
4-0 win over Hasan Badami of Maharashtra in the opening match of the of
Group B match of the Final Leg of Indian Open qualifier being played at
the PYC Hindu Gymkhana in Pune. Chawla also scored breaks of 61 and 58 in
the third and fourth frames.
In the same group, former Asian Champion, Alok Kumar of ONGC, who hails
from Punjab, also registered a convincing win over J. Varun Kumar of Tamil
Nadu 4-1. Varun managed to won only third frame.
However, the day started with a magnificent win of Chandigarh player,
Rajat Khaneja, who shocked West Bengal state champion, 'Young Bengal
Tiger', Manish Jain in straight set of frames 4-0. Rajat was in a
commanding form and outclassed Manish without any difficulty.
Railway's players Pushpender Singh won his match in great style that he
finished with an unbeaten break of 95. He was leading 3-0 where his
opponent Siddharth Parikh clinched one frame but Singh chugged to 4-1 win
recording that high break of the day.
Delhi based multiple time national champion, Manan Chandra of BPCL had no
big difficulty in routing win over former national 6Reds champion, Shivam
Arora. Shivam won the first frame but after that all frames won by
Chandra. Second frame was quite close that went to Manan 69-62.
