Big snooker
returned to the capital after a long lay off in the RKG
Masters Snooker North Zone Championship being held at Megapool
Snooker Academy in Dwarka. Players have converged from all
parts of India, which includes international starts like
Rafath Habib (Railways), Sourav Kothari (ONGC), Dhruv Sitwala
(ONGC), Sumit Talwar (Chandigarh), Anuj Uppal (Delhi),
Dharminder Lilly (Punjab) etc, are in the fray for a total
prize money, a staggering 22 Lakh, by far the highest in the
country being offered by Ravinder Gupta, a former
vice-president of Delhi Billiards & Snooker Association.
This event, a
brain child of Ravinder Gupta and Yasin Merchant (Asian Games
Gold Medalist), ably assisted by Vivek Pathak of Cue Sports
India and Manmeet Bhatia of Megapool Snooker Academy, is out
to capture the imagination of the players, culminating at Khar
Gymkhana, Mumbai.
The beauty of
this tournament is that the last 32 players will get a hefty
prize money of more than Rs.2 Lakh which results in a record
number of 122 entries. The last four in this tournament will
get a direct entry in the Mumbai event with guarantee money of
Rs.25000 each.
Four top
international players are selected to take part in the finals,
which includes Indian stars Pankaj Advani, Aditya Mehta, Yasin
Merchant, Alok Kumar and Manan Chandra.
The tournament
will kick off from 9th of march 2013.
