Sylvester upstes Dhingra

Veteran Harold Sylvester rallied to shock young Jaiveer Dhingra to advance to the billiards third round, in the All India Sohrab Gandhi Open Handicap Billiards & Naval Tata Open Handicap Snooker Tournament, organised and hosted by Elphinstone Cricket Club, VT, on Saturday.

Enjoying a +80 handicap, Sylvester staged a brilliant late recovery after trailing by a good 40 points midway to prevail over lucky loser Dhingra 200-190 in an exciting encounter.

In a thrilling third round tie, fancied Chandu Shah of PJ Hindu Gymkhana escaped to a narrow 200-196 win over septuagenarian Sakharam Ghadi of Central Railway Mumbai Institute.

Ghadi frittered away a golden opportunity to fashion one of the biggest upsets in the billiards competition when he missed a red in-off while the cueists were tied on 196.

In snooker action, Nainesh Gosalia of Matoshree Club shocked fancied Reza Merchant 2-0 in the second round. In another upset, Chetan Dalal of PJ Hindu Gymkhana beat Joe Thomas of Central Railway Mumbai Institute 2-1.

Siddharth Parikh of PJ Hindu Gymkhana fired a significant break of 42 in the first frame en route to a 2-0 win over Yash Rungta of Spring Club.
