Thacker shocks Pandya
Playing with a +55 handicap, Thacker used the advantage to overcome Pandya (+15) 99-55, 96-44 who struggled to find his form in unfamiliar conditions and missed sitters while going down in a surprisingly one-sided affair.
Later, Thacker completed a rewarding day with an exciting 116-91, 98-107, 118-86 second round win over Muzamil Khan of Elphinstone Cricket Club.
In contrast, Khar Gymkhana marker Manoj Kasare escaped to a tight 114-80, 125-118 win over Anil Sagar of Matoshree after snatching a thrilling second frame on the black.
Yasin Merchant, of Khar Gymkhana, who has just returned from the Asian Snooker Championship in Thailand where he reached the semi-finals, surged to a 80-73, 98-63 win over quality cueist Rohinton Daruwala of Dadar Parsi Colony Gymkhana after clinching a tight opening frame while in need of four snookers.
Also advancing to the third round was Merchant’s young club mate Mohit Lalwani who scraped past a dogged Kersie Gandhi of Elphinstone Cricket Club 79-106, 107-82, 99-97.
In billiards action, Darayus Dhala (+80) of Elphinstone CC upset Suresh Vaid (+70) of CCI 200-182 in a close finish to advance to the second round.
