Rokadia upsest Laungani

Iqbal Rokadia beat fancied Kishore Laungani in the only upset of the day, in the All India Sohrab Gandhi Open Handicap Billiards & Naval Tata Open Handicap Snooker Tournament, organised and hosted by Elphinstone Cricket Club, VT, on Thursday.

Playing with a +60 handicap and enjoying home conditions, Rokadia of Elphinstone Cricket Club overcame Laungani (+50) of Khar Gymkhana 115-84, 115-81 to ease

into the third round of the snooker competition.

It was a rewarding day for the host club’s cueists as Arun Kumar joined Rokadia in the third round following back-to-back wins in the opening two rounds.

In contrast, Akash Asrani (+55) of Khar Gymkhana escaped to an exciting 90-102, 108-99, 112-111 win over 20-year-old Kavesh Shetty of Catholic Gymkhana in another second round tie that ended in a black ball finish in the decider, after the cueists were engaged in close finishes in the first and second frames.

In billiards, veteran Arun Agrawal fired the competition’s second highest break with an 81 en route to a 200-163 first round win over Bharat Chhabria.
