Bijlani stuns Kumar

Sanjeev Bijlani of Park Club stunned title contender Arun Kumar in a first round billiards encounter, in the All India Sohrab Gandhi Open Handicap Billiards & Naval Tata Open Handicap Snooker Tournament, organised and hosted by Elphinstone Cricket Club, VT, on Sunday.

Playing with a +70 handicap, Bijlani returned to competition after a long hiatus and always remained ahead against the struggling Elphinstone Cricket Club cueist to romp to a 200-68 win that included a break of 36.

It was another day of upsets as Sayed Junaid (+80) of HCL Info Systems snatched a thrilling 200-189 first round win over Khazan Talib (+50) of CCI. Talib seemed well on course but he missed a sitter to trail 189-191. Sayed seized the opportunity and returned to take the match away.

Prabdeep Singh (+40) of MIG completed a rewarding day for the underdogs when he surprised favourite Chintan Zaveri (+20) of Bombay Gymkhana 200-115 after surging to a substantial lead in a second round match between quality cueists.

Another title contender Amit Saboo of Bombay Gymkhana fired a significant break of 47 for a convincing 200-153 first round win over formidable Gaurav Prabhu (+50) of MIG.
