Khan upsets Gole

 

Muzamil Khan upset fancied Ashok Gole of Mumbai Port Trust to enter the second round in the All India Sohrab Gandhi Open Handicap Billiards & Naval Tata Open Handicap Snooker Tournament, organized and hosted by Elphinstone Cricket Club, VT, on Thursday.

 

In the snooker competition, underdog Khan, of hosts Elphinstone Cricket Club, made the  most of home conditions with a late charge and rallied to a 90-123, 106-71, 105-87 win over Gole who had a handicap of +50.

 

In the other upset of the day, Malcolm Kapadia (+55) of Dadar Parsi Gymkhana recovered from the loss of a close opening frame to beat Dinesh Dodia (+50) of Elphinstone CC 93-100, 106-79, 115-92.

 

In another tight match, formidable Sahil Khan of Islam Gymkhana was taken the distance before snatching a 77-103, 109-88, 119-73 win over the tournament’s youngest player, 16-year-old Marzban Amroliwala of Dadar Parsi Gymkhana.

 

Twenty-year-old Rohit Gandhi of Nagpur kicked off his campaign with a significant break of 41 in the second frame enroute to a 110-65, 129-84 first round win over Santosh Rane of Elphinstone CC.

 

Another Nagpur lad Faizan Mohammed beat Jal Singaporewala 201-143 in the first round of the billiards competition.
