Elphinstone Cricket Club Sohrab Gandi & Naval Tata Open Handicap Billiards & Snooker Tournament 2010
05 June 2010
Arun Agrawal delights with century break
Veteran Arun Agrawal fired a brilliant break of 149 in billiards to steal the day’s honours in the All India Sohrab Gandhi Open Handicap Billiards & Naval Tata Open Handicap Snooker Tournament, organised and hosted by Elphinstone Cricket Club, VT, on Saturday.
Playing with a -180 handicap, Agrawal fired a break of 72 and later missed the 150 mark by a solitary point en route to an impressive 200-112 win over Sanjiv Bijlani of Park Club in the third round.
A resolute Agrawal, who has constructed century breaks in practice, was in brilliant form as he unraveled vintage billiards in familiar conditions to sound a warning to the other formidable cueists in the fray.
In snooker, Abdur Rehman of Islam Gymkhana won back-to-back ties to storm into the quarter-finals. Rehman’s effort included a thrilling fourth round win over Aditya Agrawal that ended in a black-ball finish.
Yasin Merchant continued his fine form as he ended the campaign of Nagpur lad Rohit Gandhi with a 2-1 win to enter the pre-quarter-finals.
