Chandan wins thrilling opener

 

Nishit Chandan of Matunga Gymkhana rallied to an exciting 2-1 win in the opening round of the All India Sohrab Gandhi Open Handicap Billiards & Naval Tata Open Handicap Snooker Tournament, organised and hosted by the Elphinstone Cricket Club, VT, on Monday.

 

In the best-of-three frames snooker competition where both players enjoyed a handicap of +55, Chandan recovered from the loss of the opening frame to prevail over a determined Vikrant Bagwe of Mandpeshwar Civic Federation, Borivli 76-106, 100-95, 109-105.

 

Chandan overcame the early setback and clinched the second frame on the pink and the decider on the black to give the competition an explosive start.

 

In another close first round tie between +55 cueists that also went the distance, Karan Bukhanwala of Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana beat V. Sukheel of Central Railway Mumbai Institute 94-110, 105-102, 117-85 that included a tight second frame which Bukhanwala snatched on the black.

 

Formidable Rohinton Daruwala of Dadar Parsi Gymkhana kicked off his campaign with a fluent 2-0 win.
