Kobnak shocks Selven

Ajit Kobnak of PJ Hindu Gymkhana upset Samuel Selven of Otters Club in a battle of the markers, in the Goldfilled Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Catholic Gymkhana on Thursday.

Kobnak (+55), who clinched the opening frame for a crucial advantage, endured a late challenge from Selven (+50) who rifled in a significant break of 33 to snatch the second frame. But Kobnak thrived on a substantial lead in the decider to romp into the third round.

Catholic Gymkhana’s Walter Pereira stretched Chandra Poojari of Tata Sports Club in another exciting second round tie.

Pereira (+60) came up with vintage snooker to take his fancied opponent the distance before Poojari (+55) ended the veteran’s campaign with a hard-fought 121-131, 124-102, 99-93 win in a thriller that included a black ball finish in the decider.

Anuj Mahajan (+55) of Radio Club was in good form as he capitalized on a fluke snooker in the opening frame to beat Kekoo Nicholson (+55) of CCI 111-80, 103-56 to also advance to the third round.
