Kalyaniwala stunned

Former Maharashtra No. 1 Marzdi Kalyaniwala made a premature exit in the Goldfilled Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Catholic Gymkhana on Wednesday.

Bombay Gymkhana’s Kalyaniwala joined the list of casualties when Naman Agarwal (+55) of Dadar Club registered one of the biggest upsets in the competition so far following an exciting 60-107, 85-70, 98-65 second round win.

Kalyaniwala got off to a dream start and lived up to his reputation when he rifled in a brilliant break of 53 to snatch the opening frame. But he surprisingly lost his way as Agarwal surged to substantial leads in the next two frames that allowed Kalyaniwala little scope of a recovery.

Aniket Bansode of Thane Gymkhana ended the campaign of the competition’s youngest player as he beat 13-year-old Ishpreet Singh Chadha of Khar Gymkhana 112-107, 111-123, 133-106 in another second round clash.

Roshan Mirchandani (+35) of Khar Gymkhana lived up to his billing with a 121-75, 105-79 second round win over Shivaji Park Gymkhana marker Jeet Gawde.
