Aditya Agarwal shocked

Junior India No. 4 Aditya Agrawal of Bombay Gymkhana crashed out of the Goldfilled Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Catholic Gymkhana on Sunday..

An off-colour Agrawal (+35), who enjoyed a comfortable first round, was shunted out by Hrannabh Shah of North Indian Association who won 93-82, 92-104, 99-65 in an exciting second round.

Enjoying a break of +55, Shah snatched a tight opening frame for a good start that rattled Agrawal quite early in the day. But Agrawal, who also is the state junior No. 2, relied on experience to bounce back into the fray while snaring the second frame.

Shah surprised his formidable opponent with impressive potting that helped him surge to a crucial 25-point lead in the decider, as he held on to register one of the biggest upsets in the competition, after Agrawal was done in by a couple of in-offs.

In another second round tie, Chirag Mehta (+50) of Garware Club House was extended before overcoming Vinod Nair (+60) of Clea PR 79-109, 106-88, 141-64.

In the other upset of the day, T.A. Zaheer (+60) of Thane beat Ashwin Kumar (+55) of Vashi 106-68, 110-80 in the first round.
