'Rocket' Singh stuns Mirchandani

Harish Mirchandani of Khar Gymkhana and Pramod Jain joined the list of casualties, in the Goldfilled Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Catholic Gymkhana on Wednesday.

Enjoying a handicap of +55, Ravinder Singh of Goregaon Sports Club rallied brilliantly from the loss of the opening frame to stun Mirchandani 83-104, 96-88, 116-81.

A skilled Mirchandani (+35) couldn’t have asked for a better start to his campaign after snatching the opening frame with a degree of comfort. But he was left stranded by Singh’s impressive potting in the next two frames on a day the underdog relished his surprise form.

Vijay Rathore (+60) of Tata Sports Club overcame Pramod Jain (+40) of Spring Club 106-59, 92-81 in the other upset of the day that included a tight finish in the second frame.

Joining Singh and Rathore in the second round were Kekoo Nicholson of CCI, Behram Aga of Elphinstone Cricket Club and Otters Club markers Samuel Selven and Joseph Menezes.
