Damania storms into final

Sharan Damania of Khar Gymkhana won an exciting semi-final to storm into the championship round, in the Goldfilled Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Catholic Gymkhana on Saturday.

Damania, who was forced to endure a similar challenge in the quarter-finals, ended the winning streak of Sushant Khade of Vashi with a 120-85, 79-99, 116-74, 85-103, 107-64 win, in a keen best-of-five frames encounter.

Fortunes fluctuated as Damania took the lead on two occasions inbetween which he dropped the second frame after missing the black on three occasions and the green once.

A cautious Khade, who also endured a four-hour long quarter-final battle the previous day, fought back on both occasions he was down to keep his hopes alive. But only a substantial lead in the decider gave the in-form Damania the edge and a place in the final.

Damani awaits the winner of the other semi-final between V. ‘Raja’ Subramaniam of Matunga Gymkhana and Farhad Tengra of Elphinstone Cricket Club.
