The Catholic Gymkhana Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2010
12 February 2010
Lingani wins a thriller
Kishore Langani of Khar Gymkhana escaped to a pulsating 2-1 win in the first round of the Goldfilled Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Catholic Gymkhana on Friday.
Enjoying a handicap of +50, Langani endured a late charge before romping to a 110-84, 91-117, 92-90 win over formidable Naresh Sadarangani (+55) of Matunga Gymkhana.
Langani got off to a good start by snatching the first frame while leaving Sadarangani way behind. But Sadarangani showed how he could be dangerous, by winning the second frame with a crucial lead to force the decider.
Sadarangani had found his touch and seemed on course while leading by a good 20 points at 90-70 with 22 points remaining on the table. But Langani returned to initiate a brilliant clearance to snatch the frame 92-90 in dramatic fashion as a helpless Sadarangani watched in disbelief..
Formidable V. Subramaniam of Matunga Gymkhana also escaped to a narrow win in the first round. On a day of close contests, Subramaniam (+40) overcame Rohan Jambusaria (+50) of MCF 109-71, 99-98 that included a black ball finish in the second frame.
