Tengra rallies

 

Formidable Farhad Tengra of Elphinstone Cricket Club initiated a late recovery to advance to the third round, in the Goldfilled Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Catholic Gymkhana on Monday.

 

Tengra (+35) snared a close encounter as he beat Kunal Rokade (+50) of Thane Sports Club 109-89, 89-83 that included a black ball finish in the second frame.

 

After winning the opening frame, Tengra was behind by a good 30 points in the second. But he rifled in a significant break of 24 points for a brilliant recovery before snatching the frame and match on the black ball.

 

In other exciting second round ties, Banoth Vittal of Hyderabad rallied to overcome Karl Vaz of Catholic Gymkhana 85-115, 111-100, 119-89, while Swami Karkera of Garware Club House beat Zain Sezi of Bombay Gymkhana 116-73, 122-79.

 

Ankit Thakkar of Matunga Gymkhana remained on course when he beat Chirag Mehta of Garware Club House 108-66, 120-86 in the third round, while Catholic Gymkhana’s Trimbak Deorukhkar, who shocked twice Asian champion Yasin Merchant in the opening round, went down in straight frames to Sushant Khade of Vashi.
