Martin lifts the title

 

Top seeded and world No 46, Martin Gould outplayed Fourth seed Aditya Mehta by 7 frames to 3 to lift the 4th edition of the "PCL-Manisha Open and Invitational Snooker Championship 2009" at the Poona Club here today.

 

In the best of 13 frame format Gould won 65-35, 72-52, 55-8, 62-0, 71-70, 47-70, 64-29, 45-71, 8-92(67), 70-24 to take the crown and the winners prize money of Rupees One Lakh, while Mehta who showed tremendous form before going down to Gould received the Runners up trophy and Rs.50000.

 

"I am very happy to have played the event, the competition was extremely good and will surely help my confidence, I hope to be back for the event next year" said Gould after his win which came after a 4 and ½ hour tussle.

 

In the first best of 13 game format in the city, Gould with all his experience raced to a 5 frame to zero lead, Mehta took the sixth frame to reduce the lead. Gould then took the seventh frame to race to a 6-2 lead. Mehta looked like making a comeback taking the next two frames, even recording a break of 67 in the 9th frame, but Gould looked sharp and did not let the advantage slip closing on Mehta winning the 10th frame and emerge winner.

 

The Semi finalists Brijesh Damani and Manan Chandra received 25000 each.
