Top seeded, Shahbaaz Khan of Petroleum Sports Control Board, a player of merit from Kolkata was right on cue on Monday evening even as he triumphed over Pranit of Tamil Nadu by 685-314 points in the Juniors billiards section of the 2008 National Billiards & Snooker championship at the exquisite billiards air-conditioned hall specially designed for the purpose at the Yeshwant Club here.

Another Kolkata player who plays with a lot of commitment and has his sights set on the crown, Manish Jain also had an impressive victory over Amit Bhushan of Karnataka by 595-392 points in a two - hour game which saw Manish score consistently and with a sense of purpose as Amit was rendered ' Horse - de - combat. Shahbaaz rode majestically to win the match with consummate ease.

Gujarat's Dhvaj Haria who has just won the Sub-juniors snooker, for once atoned for his early lapses, to regain his true form and post a 560 - 336 points to outclass Maharashtra's Jai Veer Dhingra in another match which gave the opportunity for the spectators to enjoy. On the other hand Aditya Agarwal of Maharashtra was charting his own course while accounting for the small built local lad, Himanshu Jain by 558-368 points .

However, Aditya came a cropper against Manish Jain of West Bengal in another match which saw Manish chalk up breaks of 58 and 61 on way to a fine victory by 596-479 points as Aditya could only manage 45 as his highest break in this match.

Yet it was the match between Shahbaz Adil Khan of PSPB and Orissa's Kunal Agarwal which held the spotlight on this day. Shahbaaz just managing to snatch victory by 498-475 points.
