Aditya clinches Jr. Billiards title
Aditya Agrawal relied on consistency to coast to an impressive victory that
earned him the junior billiards title, in the Matunga Gymkhana Maharashtra
State Selection 2007 Billiards & Snooker Tournament, at the Matunga Gymkhana
on Wednesday.
Agrawal surged to an early lead in his hour-and-a-half title clash against
Satbir Narula to fashion a 437-259 triumph. Narula came up with a late
challenge in a bid to keep his hopes alive but by then Agrawal, who thrived on
small but significant breaks, had things working his way.
"Satbir
played well, but I was quite comfortable with that lead. I was more relaxed
and remained focused, which helped me play my natural game," explained
Agrawal after the final.
Agrawal and Narula thus qualified to represent Maharashtra in the junior
billiards category in the forthcoming Nationals in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, fancied V. Subramaniam, Rovin D'Souza and Sanjay Jhaveri registered
easy first round wins in the senior snooker.
Matunga Gymkhana's Subramaniam, who has entered the senior billiards
semi-finals, continued to enjoy good form in home conditions as he prevailed
over Roshan Mirchandani 57-41, 72-32, 83-58. D'Souza and Jhaveri also
fashioned 3-0 wins.
