Aditya Mehta, Chandresh Shah in
Sr. Billiards semis
Formidable Aditya Mehta and Chandresh Shah relied on consistency to
book their Senior Billiards semi-final berths, in the Matunga
Gymkhana Maharashtra State Selection 2007 Billiards & Snooker
Tournament, at the Matunga Gymkhana on Monday.
Mehta, of Chembur Gymkhana, fired over-50 breaks early in the match, in quick succession, to surge to a comfortable lead of 250 points to take charge, before fashioning a convincing 632-435 win over Mahesh Jagdale in the one-and-half-hour quarter-finals. Mehta compiled significant breaks of 97, 75 and 86, while Jagdale managed 72, 69, 53 and 55.
"I started off very well with those breaks and was not really
worried with that lead. But though Mahesh came back with his 50-plus
breaks, he never capitalized on them. If he had, I perhaps would
have played under pressure, because I played in the morning as well
and it was quite exhausting," explained Mehta after the match.
In the other quarter-final, Chandresh Shah of P.J. Hindu Gymkhana overcame fancied Jatinder Dawer 654-431 that included breaks of 106 and 65, while Dawer managed a 62. Earlier, Arun Agrawal and his son Aditya advanced to the quarter-finals with easy wins.
Arun fired breaks of 79, 90 and an unfinished 122 while demolishing
Amit Sapru 733-178. Aditya beat Rishabh Kumar 497-281.
