Indian Open 2016 - World Snooker Ranking Tournament
After successfully
accomplishing the last two episode of “Indian Open – The World
Snooker Ranking Tournament”, the Billiards & Snooker Federation of
India (BSFI) is now hosting the 3rd edition of the World Ranking
Snooker Tournament - Indian Open 2016 at HICC Novotel in Hyderabad
from July 5th till 9th. The matches will have a LIVE telecast on
Sony Six Channel in India and simultaneously in 80 countries around
the world.
The qualification for the active participation of top 64 players has
already been completed and the performers and there
matches
LISTED HERE.
With the active support of the Government of Telangana and other
major sponsors, the tournament is likely to be of the highest
standard.
Hyderabad city has the history of hosting many high quality
tournaments including World Billiards Championship in 2003 and IBSF
World Snooker Championship in 2009. Several path-breaking and
innovative ideas are being pursued by the association under the
dynamic leadership of Mr. K. Vishweshwar Reddy (Member of
Parliament).
"Having world champions
playing in Hyderabad is a great pride for the city and this places
the city prominently on the World map. We expect more international
sporting events to come to Hyderabad and Telangana government
supports such international tournaments that help project Hyderabad
and its heritage at international level,"
said Mr. Vishweshwar Reddy.
Speaking with the
media, Capt. Mohan said, "I
am very happy to have this championship in Hyderabad and we have
received a lot of support from the Government of Telangana. This
will be a very good exposure for Indian players who are looking to
showcase their skills at international level."
The Indian challenge will be spearheaded by current IBSF World
Champion, Pankaj Advani and reigning World Games Gold Medalist
Aditya Mehta. There are 6 Indian wild cards participating in this
tournament consisting of Manan Chandra (India No.2), Ishpreet Chadha
(India No.3), local boy Lucky Vatnani, Kamal Chawla and Dilip Kumar.
"The format is the same
as in the earlier versions which would be Best of 7 Frames up to
Finals and Best of 9 Frames for the Final. There is tremendous
excitement all over the country especially in the host city to
witness the best players of the world in action,"
said Capt. Mohan.
Speaking in the
press conference Pankaj Advani said,
"I wish to thank Capt. Mohan and the BSFI for
organizing this prestigious tournament and feel honoured to
participate in this."
Aditya Mehta spoke to the media during the press conference and
said, "It is a great
opportunity for me to participate in the Indian Open. I am happy
that it is being held in Hyderabad this time and look forward to see
the top players in action."
