Advani wins 11th
World Title of his career; Sourav gets bronze
The versatile
cueist Pankaj Advani wins the World Billiards (150Up) Championship
2014 defeating reigning timed format World Champion Peter Gilchrist
of Singapore. Advani beat Gilchrist 6-2 in the final been played
here in Leeds, UK.
At the end of
session 1, Advani was leading 3-2 and in second session he raised
the bar to next level and made it difficult for Gilchrist to reach
there. Ofcourse there were some hurdles for Advani too but he
cleared all of them in next three games with great tactics and
smooth cueing. On the other side Gilchrist was struggling more and
missed important shots at times.
Delighted Advani
thanked IBSF-WBL for their constant efforts for hosting World
Billiards and its smooth organizing where all players are
comfortable to play and perform. He further mentioned that he
thoroughly enjoyed the championship and hoping for best results in
timed event too.
President IBSF, Jim
Leacy also congratulated both the finalists (Advani and Gilchrist)
and thanked all the sponsors including Northern Snooker Centre for
their help in hosting the event.
Last night, Kothari
settled with bronze medal losing to Pankaj Advani 2-5 in the
thrilling semi final encounter. Undoubtedly Kothari was much
competitive where four games out of seven played had a close finish.
