My job is to give 'clear cut
concept' to students - Manoj Kothari
Back from obtaining
the prestigious World Snooker Coaching certificate, Manoj Kothari
held first workshop on cue sports jointly held by Cue Sports India
and Megapool Snooker Academy in New Delhi. The chief coach of the
national team held lengthy sessions in a four-day camp and imparted
the same technique and style advocated by World Snooker.
"The workshop was organized with a focus on
science of ball dynamics and a stress on the basics of the game like
the pendulum principle and many such minor details. The players know
the concepts in bits and pieces so my task was to give them a clear
cut concept," said Kothari about the overview of the
workshop.
Kothari, who
lifted world billiards championship title in 1990, now holds the
prestigious World Snooker Coaching certificate.
"After getting the World Snooker Coaching
certificate this is my first camp. The certificate and training
lessons are at par with the best training methods there and have
been endorsed by multiple times World Professional Snooker champion
Steve Davis. The same methods advocated by the chief coach are
taught to professionals in the UK and the participants in the
workshop received the same training."
He
further added that once players adept to newer methods and
techniques their game develops. "In the future
the players will not be surprised by certain phenomena like low and
sharp angles and can concentrate on the frame with more ease. They
will not be taken aback with the unexpected movement of the ball."
With Indian National Billiards and
Snooker Championship slated to take place later this month, Kothari
added that the workshop was held with a view to help players raise
their game and not bring about a change overnight.
"The players were sincere and disciplined and
the camp would last about nine hours a day. When I was young, I was
averse to change but the sport is really competitive now. People who
have a broad mind joined in as they know that the camp will be
beneficial in the longer run and in larger scheme of things. With
daily practice, they can implement the suggestions and their game
will gradually evolve."
