Gilchrist's 1346 surpass Geet's World Record Billiards Break of 1276
Peter Gilchrist :: Singapore
World Record Billiards Break at Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club - New
Zealand
History was created at the Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club when Peter
Gilchrist, from Singapore scored a World record break of 1346 in
the New Zealand Open Billiards Championship against Ross Elixy of
New Zealand, refereed by Brain Harvey of England.
The previous world record was 1276 by India's Geet Sethi, which he
made categorically in a World Professional Championship 1992 and
holded the record for 15 years. Gilchrist also created another world record with only four visits to
the table for an average per visit of 426, against the previous best
of 243, again by Geet Sethi.
In spite of getting out of position a few times Gilchrist showed
true world class in regaining his form. He seemed to have the balls
on a string and could place them wherever he wanted.
The very large crowd was spellbound by the mastery shown by
Gilchrist, who is the two times world professional champion.
Gilchrist was elated with the break, saying that his previous
highest break was 917. He said that he was a
bit worried getting close to the one thousand but relaxed after he
had passed the mark. In a day before to this, Gilchrist also
managed a break of 887.
Praising the new record,
Geet Sethi said "It is fantastic to know about Peter's 1346 with an
average of 426 per visit. Though every break is with remarkable
efforts, its a special as no one has managed to touch the 1000 mark
in last 15 years".
